1. It was the Holy Spirit who anointed David to be king (1 Samuel 16:13), even our Lord Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:18, Acts 10:38).

2. When David sinned it was the Holy Spirit who convicted him. A conviction is a strong sense of persuasion to admit guilt leading to repentance.

3. When David was attacked by a lion or bear, the Holy Spirit helped him prevail against them (1 Samuel 17:37). We cannot walk in victory against the devil without the power of the Holy Spirit.

4. The Holy Spirit was the power behind David’s stone that killed the giant Goliath (1 Samuel 17:49).

5. The Holy Spirit was David’s source of joy and victory. True joy comes from within, from the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.


6. David constantly encouraged himself in the Lord. The Holy Spirit is there to comfort, encourage and guide us into all truth.
