Must Read! Youth, Here’s What You Must Consider Before You Say I Do

For marriage to stand, it has to be founded on the right foundation. No one wants to be in a marriage that is not only temporary but ends in divorce so here are questions you must ask yourself before you get married.

1. Do you have the same belief system? A believer and an unbeliever have no basis for spiritual intimacy. No matter how much we try to rationalize, a marriage between a believer and an unbeliever will always be incomplete because the most essential aspect of a total marriage is lost when there is no spiritual union.

2. What is my goal/vision?
The best time to know your purpose is before you get married. When you understand your potential, it will become easier to understand your partner’s potential.

3. What do I have that could contribute to my partner?
Marriage is more about giving than receiving. Lust focuses on receiving but love focuses on giving.

4. Do you have similar goals or goals that intertwine? Couples who do not share similar life goals are not right for each other. Your goals determine your level of communication and the impact of your marriage in the society.

5. Does he/she have self-control? Is there discipline over money? Someone who exercises self-control in the area of sex will also practice self-control in other, less difficult areas.

6. Is there harmony at their home? Understand that unresolved conflicts transfer to the next relationship. Be careful of someone who does not submit to their parents because it’s a sign that he/she will not respect your home.
7. Is the timing right? Are you really ready for marriage? It is important to be sure before you get into marriage. Often its wiser to finish school before you get married.

8. What does my pastor say about my partner? A genuine pastor will not control but advise you on your relationship. The saying goes, ‘Those who have walked the path are the ones that can best advise you on how to walk it’.
