What Constitutes A Good Marriage?

Basically marriage is the union of a man to a woman for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family. Marriage is God’s idea hence it is holy, good and precious in his sight.

It is important to know that a good marriage is not an accident but a result of hard work, sacrifice and patience. Here are the basic ingredients for a good marriage.

1. Christ-centered. God is the author of marriage and unless the marriage is founded upon the principles of God’s word it cannot stand. The Bible is God’s manual for your marriage.

2. Commitment And Sacrifice. This is when you willingly lose something in order to get something better. What are you willing to lose so that your marriage can work? How much you need something determines the sacrifice you will make for it.

3. Continual Forgiveness. When you don’t forgive your spouse it is proof that you do not love a part of you since your spouse is one flesh with you.

4. Deep Understanding Of What Marriage Is. Marriage is about becoming one with your spouse, it is about losing individuality and moving forward as a team both in good and bad times (Genesis 2:24).

5. Trust And Transparency.
Trust is the door to your spouse’s heart and transparency is the key that opens it. It is very costly to break trust because once broken it takes more than you can imagine to build it.

6. Good Sex.
It happens when each spouse’s priority is to please the other. The body of the woman belongs to her husband and the husband’s to the wife (1 Corinthians 7:4). The husband should enjoy and be satisfied with his wife’s breasts (Proverbs 5:19).

7. Compromise. This is about losing an argument in order to win your relationship. The more mature spouse is seen by being willing to compromise on certain things to save their marriage.
